University of Utah David M Grant NMR Center (Gauss Haus)
Salt Lake City, UT
Project Description
The University of Utah’s Chemistry Department’s new Gauss Haus, a 21,000sf center of Nuclear Magnetic Research (NMR) at the campus, is below ground yet adjacent to the Henry Eyring Chemistry Building. The construction of the Gauss Haus was a unique challenge as the 900 MHz NMR Spectrometer is only the sixth such magnet in the world to become operational. The installation and commissioning of the magnet presented a number of specialized utility and building requirements, including isolating the equipment from vibrational frequencies, precise control of the radius of each magnetic field from interfering with each other and other equipment, and preventing from posing safety hazards to the research teams that will inhabit the building. The new center also includes administrative spaces for faculty members in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, chemical and fuels engineering, medicinal chemistry, physics, and biotechnology. What Our Clients Are Saying
