San Juan Regional East Tower Expansion and Renovation
Farmington, NM
Project Description
San Juan Regional Medical Center is a regional full-service, Level 1-175 bed acute care
hospital serving Farmington, New Mexico and San Juan County; also, it provides specialized
medical service to the Four Corners area of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah.
The new East Tower addition to the main hospital building is a four-story, 163,000sf expansion that includes state-of-the-art operating suites, 72 patient beds, main entry, cafe, healing garden, central sterile supply, loading dock, warehousing and material handling space and a more inviting physical plant overall, moving away from the institutional appearance of traditional hospitals.
The extensive new tower portion of the project was completed in two phases—an east tower addition and an existing facility renovation. The addition included a 163,000sf, five-story inpatient tower addition. The inpatient rooms were all private suites that included exterior patios. Renovations to the existing structure, totaling 37,000sf, included new cardiac rehabilitation, endoscopy, registration, support services, food service kitchen and dining, gift shop, and administrative offices. San Juan Regional Medical Center’s Bed Modernization Program involved the renovation of 20,000sf of the second and fourth floors of the existing bed tower, converting semi-private patient rooms to private patient rooms.
