PROJECTS    RELIGIOUS & CULTURAL    LDS NAUVOO TEMPLE
LDS Nauvoo Temple
Nauvoo, IL
Project Description
This particular temple is a re-creation of the original temple that was built in the early 1840s and then destroyed by fire shortly after its dedication. Due to its religious and historical significance, every effort was made to make the new temple as much like the original as possible; however, some changes, such as elevators where fireplaces and chimneys would have once stood, were necessary. Unique antique elements include the floor of the baptistery finished in red brick tile and hardwood, intricate moldings throughout, and hardwood floors arranged with rugs and runners typical of the mid nineteenth century. Many of the furnishings were family heirlooms dontated by Latter-day Saints across the country.
